Read Aloud Volunteers

Each morning we invite community members to our site to serve as a Read Aloud guest during our morning activity:  Harambee.

During the CDF Freedom School Day, Harambee is a time of informal sharing when children and staff come together to celebrate themselves and each other.  It energizes both students and staff and creates a positive atmosphere.

The purpose of Read Aloud is to show our scholars how reading is an integral part of all professions, so be prepared to take about how important reading is for your job.  We ask that guests arrive by 8:30 am.  Harambee ends at 9:00 am.  Come early to choose your book.

Scholars

The Charles McNair Freedom School of Saginaw starts on Monday, June 16 - July 25, 2025 (Monday - Friday). Scholars can arrive at 7:30 am and picked up by 3:30 pm (NO EXCEPTIONS).  ALL SCHOLARS are to arrive by 8:00 am and not leave until 3:00 pm.

If you have a known conflict, please do not register for freedom school.  We are anticipating a wait list. Our goal is to use funds that were generously donated to maximize the freedom school experience for scholars who can make a 100% commitment to the program.
